Put 1 1/2 tablespoons of finely ground espresso into the coffee basket. Level the coffee and wipe off any excess grounds to avoid residue.

Place two shot glasses or one cup underneath the Rapporto filter espresso dispensers, which are located on its underside.

Fill the water tank at least halfway.
Remove Rapporto filter, if it is in place.
Position the steam wand. It should be on the side of the machine.
Turn machine on and wait for the 'Ready' light.

Turn the steam-wand valve knob. This will release any condensation remaining in the wand. Use caution as this may release steam. Close the valve after any steam has been released.
Fill a pitcher halfway with cold milk and insert thermometer into the milk.
Place pitcher under steam wand, until the wand is just under the milk's surface. Hold pitcher at a slight angle to encourage steam flow. When milk has steamed to the desired amount, submerge the wand halfway into the milk.
Remove pitcher when milk reaches 150 to 170 degrees Fahrenheit. Wipe steam wand clean with damp cloth.
